Getting to the Heart of It

November 9, 2017 by Laurie Brumberg (Faculty and Staff)

Most of us have habits of giving – the Friday tzedakah box, the monthly paycheck deduction, the yearly gifts. We instill in our children the same habit – splitting an allowance, dropping a quarter into the box. We do what we can, and when we give, we say something about who we are and what […]

Read-a-thon to Support Hurricane Harvey Victims

September 6, 2017 by Sharon Freundel (Community)

An important middah (moral virtue) is achrayut (responsibility). As teachers and as parents, we spend much of our time working to instill in our children a sense of responsibility for themselves, their behavior, and their work. But we also look for opportunities to teach our children that our responsibility does not end with ourselves – that, […]

Tikkun Olam: JPDS-NC in the Community

April 7, 2016 by Hannah Seidel (Faculty and Staff)

One of the core values that informs and inspires life at JPDS-NC is Tikkun Olam (Transforming the World). This year, members of our school community have cooked, cleaned, painted, danced, served, gleaned, organized, and supported a variety of causes. We are inspired by seeing our students embrace this value so wholeheartedly, and by the parents, alumni, faculty, and staff […]
