MILTON Leads in Hebrew Language Education

October 27, 2022 by Ronit Greenstein (Faculty and Staff)

We are excited to share that based on the latest Avant Hebrew assessment, MILTON leads its peer schools in all four skills of language acquisition (Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing). We also are thrilled to announce that 60 MILTON students were awarded the Global Seal of Biliteracy; this award is given in recognition of students who attained a functional fluency in Hebrew, a designation given to students who earned a proficiency level of Intermediate mid-5 or higher on all four skill areas of the Avant assessment.

MILTON’s program follows the guidelines of the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), which rates Hebrew as a level 3 difficulty language because of its separate alphabet system and structure of the language. This means it takes longer to achieve a proficiency level in Hebrew than in other languages, such as Spanish or Italian, so our students’ achievement is especially notable.

We want to wish a hearty mazal tov to our students, and express our deep gratitude to our Hebrew faculty. The achievement of MILTON students in Hebrew language learning is a testament to our teachers’ dedication and their incredible efforts to engage and advance the students, even throughout the pandemic. We also want to thank you, our parents, because this achievement also reflects your commitment to Hebrew language education.

See the linked document for the full data comparing MILTON test results with other schools.

*Please note: the term Hebrew schools in the Avant charts and literature refers to other dual-language Jewish day schools.
