Milton Educator Melinda Viteri Participates in Aerospace Educator Expo

April 27, 2021 by Ronit Greenstein (Faculty and Staff)

Milton educator and Space Camp Director Melinda Viteri participated in an aerospace expo for teachers on ways to integrate aviation, space, robotics and more into the curriculum! Melinda was one of 30 teachers selected to participate in the program. The aerospace educators workshops included sessions on the science behind space suits, and integrating hands-on activities in lessons about NASA’s ingenuity aircraft, as well as opportunities to learn with NASA experts on Mars and the return to the moon program. The keynote speaker was NASA Astronaut Winston E. Scott (Captain, USN – pictured right with Melinda) who traveled over 10 million miles in space, and took three spacewalks during missions to support technical planning for the International Space Station and to capture, by hand, the Spartan satellite. Melinda spoke with Astronaut Scott, who also has a degree in music, about ways that children can access the arts and why the ‘A’ in STEAM is a vital component in preparing students for jobs that require creativity, such as an Astronaut. She is excited to share the latest content with Milton’s stellar educators and our amazing learners!
