Welcoming Distinguished Guests from Israel at JPDS-NC: Michal Cohen, Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Education and Rabbi David Lau, Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel

October 22, 2015 by Ronit Greenstein (Faculty and Staff)

JPDS-NC was honored to welcome several special guests from Israel to our school this week. On October 21, we were privileged to share our best practices in Jewish and Israel education with Israel’s Ministry of Education and Jewish education leaders. We enjoyed an inspiring conversation with the Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Education, Michal Cohen; Deputy Director of Israel’s Ministry of Education, Gila Nagar; Director of the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute Children’s Research Division, Miriam Cohen-Navot; Senior Director, Community & Global Impact for the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, Marci Harris-Blumenthal; Senior Education Officer for the Department of Jewish Life & Learning, Barry Krasner; and Israel Schlicha, Pnina Agenyahu.

On October 16, we had the honor of hosting Rabbi David Lau, Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, for a visit. Rav Lau visited with Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade classes and answered students’ questions. Upon receiving the book Jewish Washington: Scrapbook of an American Community from the school, Rav Lau said, “I hope that one day they will add a page to this book about you, because you are Jewish life in this city.”

We were delighted to host our distinguished guests. Thank you for visiting JPDS-NC!
