Our Work with Families to Ensure that MILTON Remains a Certainty for Their Children

June 20, 2025 by Deborah Skolnick-Einhorn

This message was originally sent to current MILTON families in April 2025. We wanted to share it with our broader community to give them a sense of how we are working with each of our families to ensure that MILTON remains a certainty for their children.

Dear MILTON Families,

At the Board of Trustees’ March meeting, the MILTON board empowered our tuition aid team to distribute emergency aid to families experiencing job loss, reduction, or furlough related to changes in federal government staffing and funding. MILTON’s mission describes our community as a vibrant tapestry that weaves together all of our unique threads; we see each individual holistically but also step back to recognize the colorful beauty of the whole. Our school could not live into its fullness without each of your children and your families, and we are committed to weathering this challenging period together and fully intact.

We recognize that for many families facing job loss or fear of unemployment, day school might feel like a luxury, an even bigger stretch than usual. But we believe that – now more than ever – it is a necessity for our families, especially those facing change and instability in other parts of their lives. You are needed here and we are committed to providing the tuition aid you need to remain part of this community.

Over the past month, we have approached and been approached by some of our major donors – those who have invested in creating MILTON as we know it today. They are so proud of our school and recognize the severity of the moment. They are ready to step in to help ensure that families can continue to afford to send their children to MILTON, even in the face of job loss and financial uncertainty. We and they recognize that these job losses may impact more than just the 2025-2026 school year, and we are preparing for elongated scenarios as well.

We ask that you continue to share with us the latest news for your family. In addition to the survey from last month that was incredibly helpful in understanding the needs of our community, we would like to ask anyone who has lost a job since January to fill out this form. This will allow us to follow up with you and to track the overall impact on our community. The link will continue to be live and shared in HaShavua in case your family’s situation evolves in the coming weeks or months.

In addition to job loss, we understand from your helpful input that families are also grappling with new and less flexible schedules, which lead to childcare and transportation complexities. We are likewise preparing to expand our offerings in those areas to meet your evolving needs. Our extraordinary MPA has also created a network to help with job searching and childcare (see details below if you want to get more involved) and we are so grateful for how they have jumped into action.

Again, and on every level, it is our commitment to make MILTON certain for your family in this time of uncertainty. If there is a way that you feel the community can better meet your needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email or to make an appointment with Deborah.

MILTON is, and will continue to be, here for your family.
