New York Times Bestselling Author Brad Meltzer Receives His Own Biography Written and Illustrated by MILTON Third Graders
September 28, 2017 by
Brad Meltzer – the #1 New York Times bestselling author and TV host – came to our school last year to speak with third graders about his biography series, a genre the students had been studying. The children were inspired by his stories about the early lives and challenges faced by the real American heroes that are his biographical subjects. They heard about Amelia Earhart, Abraham Lincoln, Jane Goodall, and Jim Henson, among others. They even heard Brad’s own story. After the author’s visit, a group of students decided to write their own biography about Brad Meltzer.
Students researched, wrote, and illustrated a biography of the biographer – they even used a similar format to the one used by Brad in his series. “I Am Brad Meltzer” includes his personal history, an event in his childhood that shaped who he is today, the challenges he faced getting published, his path toward becoming a children’s author, his favorite books, his work habits, his reflections on meaningful moments of professional achievement, and the words of wisdom he shared with the students.
Recently, we sent their book to Brad as a present. Check out his reaction upon getting this amazing gift. Kol Hakavod to the students and their teachers!
