Early American History on Display at Colonial Village

January 27, 2022 by Ronit Greenstein (Faculty and Staff)

The excitement was palpable! For a few hours this morning, the gym became a Colonial Village as 60 fifth graders donned period costumes and shared their expertise about colonial professions and early American history. Students in other grades came to learn about the lives and work of 18th century merchants and craftspeople. Each fifth grader selected a colonial profession such as a printer, cooper, chandler, cobbler, seamstress, pharmacist, blacksmith, and more; then, they researched their professions, created artifacts and presentations, and drafted biographies that included information such as daily schedules, personal histories about how their characters came to America, and the hardships they encountered as they became colonists.

Huzzah to the fifth graders!
