Artful Project Helps Students Cultivate Creativity, Hebrew Language Skills, & Israel Connection

February 25, 2021 by Ronit Greenstein (Faculty and Staff)

As part of the second grade “All About Me” Hebrew curriculum, students are building their Hebrew vocabulary, cultivating writing skills, honing presentation skills – and connecting to Israeli culture!

Recently, the children created self-portraits inspired by the work of Hanoch Piven, an Israeli artist, editorial caricaturist, and illustrator. Piven uses a wide array of random, found objects in his art, which stimulates viewers to look at the world in a playful and humorous way. In his work, every object tells a story and has meaning. MILTON second graders were challenged to tell stories about themselves using different modalities. The curricular unit included writings and presentations in Hebrew, as well as visual stories in which the children made creative, playful, mixed-media portraits. Kol Hakavod!
