December 19, 2018 by Melissa Davis (Faculty and Staff)

Six Milton educators attended the annual Jewish Early Childhood Education Conference presented by the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington!

Milton had a very strong presence at the conference this year. Laura Cohen, South Campus pedagogista, co-chaired this year’s conference. Judy Kimel, South Campus atelierista, presented one of our Kindergarten projects as she sat on a panel of atelieristas and pedagogistas from a variety of schools in our community during a presentation led by Laura Cohen titled “Making Learning Visible Through the Use of Materials.” The Milton choir performed, led by music teacher Javon Morris-Byam. And Sharon Freundel, managing director of the Jewish Education Innovation Challenge and former Milton Director of Jewish Life, was the keynote speaker.

The title of the conference was “Hear Our Voices – Shema Koleinu.” Throughout the day, Milton educators attending a variety of workshops with a focus on listening, including “Using a Child’s Voice as Your Guide,” “Hearing the Voices of the Land: How We Listen to Nature,” and “The Echo of Israel’s Voice in the ECE Classroom.” As always, it was a rich and meaningful day of learning.
