Meet the Middle School Program Committee: Co-Chair Jenn Geetter

May 5, 2016

I live in the District with my husband, Josh Segal, and our two children, Isaiah (first grade) and Eden (pre-K). Josh was born here but grew up in Philadelphia. I am from Connecticut. We have been in DC since 2005.
The other Co-Chairs of the Program Committee and I are working with an incredible, diverse, and knowledgeable team of parents to help articulate the type of learning environment that we want our children to have, and to serve as a sounding board for the middle school leadership on possible approaches to particular areas of the curriculum. The Committee is divided into topic subcommittees, for example STEM, the humanities, Judaics, athletics, and art.
While Josh comes from a day school background, I went to public school.  It is a new experience for me to be connected to a Jewish school. With children just in pre-K and first grade, this is only our second year in the school and middle school seems very far away, but we look forward to a learning environment that challenges our children and encourages them to explore, ask questions, and become kind world citizens.
When I became part of the team of parents assisting in planning for the middle school, I found myself reflecting on the environment we would want for Isaiah and Eden during the important middle school years and envisioned their classrooms creating opportunities for rigorous and thought-provoking academics, both secular and Judaic and a nurturing, supportive and thoughtful place for our children to become young adults. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to that effort.
