Meet the Middle School Program Committee: Co-Chair Jen Sultan
May 5, 2016
JPDS-NC has been a second home for our children since 2008 when our oldest son entered Kindergarten. We did not consider any other school at the time because it was obvious that we would educate our children in D.C.’s only Jewish day school, a nurturing environment that continued with the Reggio Emilia approach to learning that our son had enjoyed in preschool. Fast forward to today, when our JPDS-NC graduate has moved on to seventh grade and our two younger children are students at the JPDS-NC North Campus. JPDS-NC’s nurturing atmosphere has benefited our children in many ways (even the bus stop ends up being a community within a community!), but it also offers a creative approach to learning, engagement of both students and parents in the learning process, and a willingness to look for areas of improvement. I am pleased to participate in a committee that will help select from among the best ideas out there to develop a curriculum for our middle school that will meet the needs and desires of our community. As Co-Chair of the Middle School Program Committee, I intend to use my professional bridge-building skills and relationships with many JPDS-NC families to help steer the discussion in a constructive direction.
