A Magical Day at Camp MILTON

The MILTON Parents Association was thrilled to bring Camp MILTON back for the third year. As the current co-chairs of the MPA, Julie Newport and I love Camp MILTON. It is where the previous MPA co-chairs encouraged us to plan a class together, an open-fire cooking class, where we had the best time getting to know each other and still laugh about the year it snowed at Camp. And, at last year’s event, just after October 7, 2023, we realized that our community needed and valued this time together and we were committed to making this event part of MPA’s calendar moving forward. While the two of us have loved being involved in Camp MILTON since the inception of this event in 2022, we wanted others to hear from a new voice and were excited to get a glimpse of what this day offered a new MILTON family. Below is a reflection from Tamar Ariel, a Kindergarten parent:

On September 16, MPA gifted my family a magical day. We took a break from gymnastics, housecleaning, grocery shopping, and the Sunday scaries. We packed up the car – with way more than we needed! – and drove up to Capital Camps for the first time. What greeted us was a truly carefree day – one of those core-memory-making days we talk about – in which we bonded as a family, enjoyed the company of old and new friends, and were physically and mentally challenged!

Just how much can Camp MILTON pack into seven hours? Led by my kindergartener Daniela, our family participated in a fraction of the offerings: tie-dye, arts and crafts, canoeing and kayaking, more arts and crafts, and the playground. The highlight for us was the zipline. As we waited in the very popular line, I kept thinking that Daniela would ultimately change her mind when she got to the top. To my surprise, she proved to us and to herself that she can do scary things and had the time of her life flying across the grass with a giant smile!

As a family new to MILTON, we met many new families and started conversations we have continued back home. We had the joy of seeing our daughter happily run around and make mud with her brand-new school friends! We felt the magic of the community we had entered. When we finally got back into the car in the evening, our day was summed up by one request: “When can we come back to Camp MILTON and spend the night here?”
