Construction Update

July 20, 2017 by Naomi Reem (Faculty and Staff)

Over the past month, we moved every item out of our North Campus classrooms, shared communal spaces, offices, and a humongous storage space with decades’ worth of documents and a treasure trove of school memorabilia. Taking some detours into Memory Lane made the packing process a little more exciting!

We successfully settled into the three facilities that we will use during the 2017-18 school year: South Campus, New North Campus, and a house adjacent to North Campus that the school purchased several years ago. The house is the “Milton Expansion and Renovation Headquarters,” housing the Coakley Williams (the general contractor) construction team as well as the Milton finance and administration team. Most of the administrative team is working in the South Campus during the summer, giving us a welcome opportunity to all be in the same building, which we all appreciate.

The North Campus renovation work is underway, focusing on site preparation and prepping for the full mobilization of our team of contractors and subcontractors. Site preparation includes work inside the building, disconnecting and reconnecting utilities, erosion control, and prep work for a retaining wall on the side of the property. We also began selective demolition inside the building, as well as removal of salvaged materials. In addition, the team continues, as they will do throughout the year, to secure all the appropriate inspections and permits to make sure the work continues smoothly to completion. We are gearing up to the long-awaited demolition of the old auditorium in the next few weeks!

At the same time, preparations continue at the “New North” site. We are finishing prep work such as adding walls, painting parts of the building, organizing furniture in the classrooms, and hanging white boards, projectors, and bulletin boards. We are also installing access control, security cameras, and infrastructure for technology and phone system. We take full possession of the building on August 1. We look forward to making the New North Campus a home away from home for all students in Grades 2 through 6!
Stay tuned for more updates!

All the books and bookshelves have been removed from the Rabin Library.

A classroom stands empty, devoid of furniture, as the ceiling tiles are removed in preparation for renovation.

As interior walls begin to be demolished, it is possible to see directly from a classroom into the adjacent hallway without looking through the door.
